Team Competition
China wins 10th World University Badminton Championship
China defeated Thailand with a score 3-0 to become for the second time World University Badminton Championship in team competition.
China was the favourite team to win the tournament and didn’t disappoint their euphoric supporters. The confrontation began with the mixed doubles match. Thailand entered stronger and won the first game for 21-15. The powerful smashes of the Thailand player Patiphat Chalardchalaem were decisive to balance the match. In the second game China seemed to wake up and won for the same result that had lost previously (21-15).
The last game was decisive and China didn’t facilitate and won for 21-14. The match ended when the Thailand women player sent the shuttle to the net.
In the first match, China obtained the much needed strength and confidence to win the other matches. So, in the men singles match, Pengyu Du won and gave China the second victory in the final. It was a very competitive and well played match. The first game ended with a strong smash by Pengyu Du and with a 23-21 for China in the score.
In the second game China won more easily, although the final score was 21-17 for China. This victory was effusively celebrated by the Chinese player.
In what was the last match of the final, Yihan Wang (China) defeated her opponent from Thailand, Salakjit Ponsana for 2-0. This women singles match was well played and gave to the supporters great badminton moments. The beginning of the first game was very balanced, but the physic condition of the Chinese player made the difference in the most disputed plays. So, Wang won the first game for 21-16.
In the second game Ponsana had physical struggles and her opponent didn’t give any chances to balance the match. Wang, the 19th of the world ranking beats Ponsana, the 33th, for 21-13.

Men’s Singles
Pengyu Du gets the gold for China
The Chinese player Pengyu Du conquered the gold medal in Men’s Singles of the World University Badminton Championship. The Chinese competitor needed more than hour to defeat Sheng-Shiun Liao, from Chinese Taipei, for 2-1. It was an exciting final where both players gave everything. Du left the court in physical difficulties.
The initial part of the match was very balanced. After the short technical interval, the Chinese made fewer mistakes, closing the game by 21-17. In the second game, Sheng-Shiun Liao saw his opponent make a lot of unforced errors. The Chinese Taipei won the second game by same result, 21-17.
In the crucial game Pengyu quickly reached some advantage. But when the score was 13-6 in his favour, he needed medical assistance. Although he had physical problems in his leg, the Chinese athlete controlled the game. At the final, the final 21-11 guaranteed the gold for China.
It was a great match, where the Chinese Taipei Sheng-Shiun Liao got to almost every shuttle. Even so, Pengyu Du was more regular in the match.
Women’s Singles
Yihan Wang retained the world title
Yihan Wang retained the world title, by 2-0. after defeating the Korean athlete Kim Mun Hee in the final of Single Women’s Competitions.
The number one of University Ranking started the final very focused and dominated all the whole first game, without any problem winning by 21-10. Kim Hee began the second game with a good performance but couldn´t stop the Chinese player, who made a superb exhibition. Taking advantage of some personal mistakes made by Kim Hee, Wang won by 21-7.
Yihan Wang didn’t lose any game during the competition and is once more the World University Badminton Champion.
Men’s Doubles
Indonesia is the new champion
The Indonesian pair Bona Septano/Mohammad Ahsan only needed about 25 minutes to defeat the Korean team Gi Hoon Han/Tae Il Han. The match was completely dominated by the Indonesians.
In the first game, Septano and Ahsan have always been leading since the first minute.
The same happened in the second game, with the Indonesians getting an advantage of 10 points and at the middle of the game 11-1 was the result. The Koreans reacted but in the final, the Indonesian double won by 21-12, winning the golden medal.
Women’s Doubles
The doubles from Thailand, Voravichitchaikul/Aroonkesorn, and from Japan, Nakahara/Sekiya, played the final of women’s doubles competition.
The match was all dominated by Thailand’s team. Although the efforts of the Japanese players, Thailand’s players won two games (21-11, 21-17).
After the first place in the mixed doubles, the athlete from Thailand, Voravichitchaikul and Thailand won the second gold medal in this tournament.
Mixed Doubles
Pathiphat and Kunchala are the mixed-doubles champions
Patiphat Chalardchalaem and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul are the new world university champions of badminton’s mixed doubles category, after beating the Chinese Taipei pair, Chia-Min Wang/Pei-Rong Wang, by 2-1 in a tough match.
The first game started with both teams too nervous and making many mistakes. Even so, the Thailand players were stronger and reached the first game interval winning by 11-10. Taipei players tried to recover from the disadvantage, unsuccessful. With two points to win the first game, the Thailand players took advantage from their opponent’s mistakes and won the first game by 21-16.
In the second game the mistakes were less, especially from the Taipei players. In spite of that, Thailand players were winning by 11-6 at the interval of this second game. But in the second half of the game, Taipei players were very well, reaching the 19-19 result and ending the game winning by 24-22.
With the last game to play, the crowd started to support both teams and the game was very well played. Taipei started better with good plays which gave them the advantage of 7-2, due to Kunchala’s lost points. At the interval, the result was 11-4 to Taipei. In the second half of the last game, Thailand players were motivated and began a great recovery, reaching the 14-16 result. The recovery continued and after the 4 points scored, Thailand only needed three more to win the match. They got it and the final result (21-18) made Patiphat and Kunchala the new world university champions of badminton, in the mixed-doubles category.

中國羽毛球女隊以3比0擊敗東道主印尼隊，第11次奪得尤伯杯。中國隊成為尤伯杯歷史上第一支連續6屆奪冠的球隊。
在17日的決賽中，面對世界排名比自己低很多的尤里安蒂，謝杏芳打得信心十足。她以21比8和21比15連勝兩局，輕鬆地為中國隊拿下第一分。
在接下來的女雙比賽中，去年中國大師賽冠軍、印尼好手瑪麗薩/納西爾給奧運會冠軍楊維/張潔雯制造了一些麻煩，前兩局雙方戰成一比一。決勝局印尼組合在2比9落後的情況下，頑強地將比分追成16平，但楊維/張潔雯最後關頭發揮出色，連得5分後以21比16拿下決勝局。
第三場比賽由中國選手盧蘭對陣印尼選手費爾達薩里。世界排名第三的盧蘭在比賽中佔盡優勢，以21比12和21比10直落兩局擊敗對手。
中國隊總教練李永波賽後說：“從雙方實力對比看，決賽打出3比0很正常。因為我們每個出場選手都佔據優勢。謝杏芳、盧蘭打得要比前兩場好，但還不是最好的狀態。楊維、張潔雯頂住了壓力，在十分困難的情況下取得了比賽的勝利。”

中國男子羽毛球隊經過全體隊員的努力，連過五關，最終連續第三次拿下了湯姆斯杯，書寫了羽壇一段神奇，開創了湯姆斯杯歷史上的“中國時代”。連續三次為中國隊出戰第一、二單打和第一雙打的林丹、鮑春來、蔡贇/傅海峰無疑是創造這一輝煌的最大功臣。
林丹風雲組合一波三折成三冠關鍵
中國男隊在2004年在闊別了湯姆斯杯12年以後重新奪杯，當時的第一、二號單打是林丹和鮑春來，第一雙打是蔡贇/傅海峰，他們分別為中國隊奪杯立下了汗馬功勞，兩年以後還是這四人扛起了中國男子羽毛球隊的大樑，依然分別出任第一、二單打和第一雙打，同樣依靠他們的出色發揮衛冕冠軍。本屆杯賽依舊是他們四位挑中國隊的大樑，他們面對的都是各強隊的最強的隊員，壓力是巨大的，但他們不畏強手，充分地發揮了自己的水平。為中國隊奪杯再度立功。
林丹在本次比賽中遇到了嚴峻的挑戰，他在小組賽時打的頗為順手，很輕鬆地就戰勝了對手，在1/4比賽中他遇到泰國名將波薩那，結果並沒有出現預料之中的激戰，他很輕鬆地就取得了勝利。然而在半決賽中，目前世界排名第二位的馬來西亞名將李宗偉一反常態，進攻的速度打的非常快，令林丹頗不適應，很快就將比分拉開，最後林丹還沒有發揮出自己的水平就輸掉了比賽，這場比賽充分暴露了林丹準備不足、應變能力欠缺和臨場急躁等問題，也給他敲響了警鐘。
同樣在決賽中，韓國的年輕選手樸成奐也將速度打的很快，而且進攻威脅很大，很快就拿下了第一局，林丹直到第二局才及時調整狀態、加快速度，打出了自己所擅長的頭頂劈殺對角線的特長技術，最終憑借出眾的能力戰勝了對手，這一關鍵的一分也奠定了中國隊的勝局。這次比賽林丹遇到了對手孤注一擲的衝擊，無論是贏球還是輸球，都給他留下了成功和失敗的經驗，對準備奧運會是有好處的。
同樣第一雙打蔡贇/傅海峰也在關鍵的比賽中為中國隊取勝立下了戰功，在半決賽林丹失利以後，風雲組合勇挑重擔，面對馬來西亞名將陳文宏/古健傑時充分發揮了自己搶網快速、攻防實力強的特點，為中國隊扳回了關鍵的一分，也為中國隊最終奪冠立下了汗馬功勞。在決賽中，他們雖然輸給了韓國名將李龍大/鄭在成，但也基本上打出了自己的風格和水平，只是由於關鍵球沒有處理好輸掉了至關重要的第一局，此後他們失誤過多輸掉了比賽，但還是令人滿意的。
當然他們在比賽中也暴露出了關鍵球處理過於急躁、網前搶網不夠細膩、多拍不夠耐心失誤比較多等弱點，希望他們能及時總結並進行調整。
鮑春來成定海神針
鮑春來在本次比賽中保持全勝，展現了相當出色的競技狀態，更為神奇的是，他在近三屆湯姆斯杯賽都保持不敗，可謂是中國羽毛球隊的“定海神針”。他在半決賽對馬來西亞隊的比賽中，前兩盤雙方打成一平，面對巨大的心理壓力，鮑春來打的相當出色，技戰術運用非常合理，用細膩的技術控制住了馬來西亞老將黃綜翰的進攻，出現機會以後的點殺和突擊也堪稱完美，完勝對手為中國隊拿下關鍵的一分。
他在決賽中的表現更為出色，面對經驗十分老到的李鉉一，他打的非常耐心，終於通過多拍的調動找到了對手的漏洞，雖然對手多次擦網得分，但鮑春來的情緒始終沒有受到影響，最終在多次平局以後艱難地拿下了第一局，這局球對他是一次非常好的鍛煉。其後他完美發揮完勝對手。三屆湯杯一盤未失，鮑春來完全可以稱得上是中國隊的“鐵二單”。
這次比賽鮑春來的穩定發揮讓人相信他已經在技戰術和心理上完全成熟起來，完全可以在今年的奧運會上取得好成績。同樣對於林丹和風雲組合來說，他們通過比賽及時總結經驗教訓，可望在奧運會上交出一份令人滿意的答卷。
第四場比賽為第二雙打謝中博/郭振東與李在珍/黃智萬的較量，成為左右戰局的關鍵。第一局，中國組合21比12先拔頭籌，但此後對手21比19扳回一城。在再贏一局就能捧杯，否則結果將無法預測的情況下，謝中博與郭振東放手一搏，越戰越勇，以20比11率先拿到賽點。眼看勝利在望，韓國人卻又頑強地再追一分，這更加激發了謝中博的鬥志。最後一球，郭振東發球，不等韓國隊將球回過網，謝中博果斷地高高躍起，球向一把犀利的尖刀直刺對方……以21比12結束比賽。
這是中國隊繼2004年、2006年後再次獲得湯姆斯杯冠軍。
