2008年4月20日亞洲羽毛球錦標賽在馬來西亞新山圓滿落幕。在男單決賽中，手握奧運門票的中國選手陳金未能完美收官，過于放鬆的他以0︰2完敗於韓國悍將樸成奐，屈居亞軍，
賽後，陳金坦言斬獲奧運門票後自己有所鬆懈，不在最佳狀態，“雖然我也準備了比賽，也想贏，但是求勝欲望不是特別強。前面的比賽必須要贏才能確保奧運資格，所以氣勢和信心很足。但是獲得了奧運資格後，感覺人有些鬆。”
女單決賽中，中國選手蔣燕皎表現神勇，在先失一局後奮勇連扳兩局，最終以2︰1逆轉隊友王琳，實現該項賽事兩連冠。此外，女雙賽會頭號種子楊維/張潔雯也順利問鼎女雙桂冠。在男雙決賽中，2號種子韓國組合鄭在成/李龍大優勢明顯，以2︰0完勝印尼新組合陳甲亮/維迪安托，摘得男雙桂冠。混雙方面，印尼組合林培雷/馬瑞薩2︰0擊敗同胞維迪安托/納西爾奪得冠軍。

India’s Chetan Anand faltered at the final stage of the India Open Grand Prix Gold tournament here at the Gachibowli Stadium on Sunday, unable to get past the craftiness of Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana.
Chetand fell 21-16, 21-12 in a match that Boonsak controlled from the early stages.
Zhou Mi of Hong Kong took the women’s singles, upsetting Lu Lan of China 21-14, 21-14. China, however, took the men’s doubles and mixed doubles.
After the high of his wins over the higher-ranked Chen Yu of China and Andrew Smith of England, Chetan was expected to provide a strong challenge to Ponsana. The Thai, however, asserted his dominance early on and never let off his grip on the game.
The pivotal factor in Chetan’s two big wins in the run-up to the final was his deception. That was nullified since Ponsana plays the same sort of deceptive game – double shots and flicks – and he had the added advantage of playing a more attacking game.
Tricky shots from the Indian that would have floored lesser opponents kept getting back, with Ponsana anticipating correctly and adding some variety of his own. Chetan made it within striking distance with a body smash to make it 14-16, but then, on the next point he smashed wildly and Ponsana stepped on the gas.
The Thai kept using his big jump smashes to keep Chetan on the defensive, playing the percentages well enough to maintain the lead.
In the second game his dominance was more pronounced – Chetan somehow managed to remain in the game on the long rallies, but Ponsana ruthlessly cut him short at other times. The closest the Indian could get was 7-9, and the lead kept getting bigger as the Thai refused to let him get any sort of rhythm.
Earlier, China was dealt a blow as All England finalist Lu Lan fell to Zhou Mi. The match was a slow affair, full of deep lobs as both refused to get drawn into an attacking game. “The shuttle was fast, and neither of us wanted to commit mistakes, so we kept playing safe,” Zhou said.
In the men’s doubles, Malaysia’s Chew Choon Eng-Chan Chong Ming’s gallant run came to an end after the duo, who recently resumed their partnership after a short retirement from the sport, were shut down by China’s Guo Zhendong-Xie Zhongbo.
Despite dropping the first game, the Chinese pair took home the title in three games, winning 19-21, 21-14, 21-12.
He Hanbin-Yu Yang gave China another title when they won the mixed doubles, conquering Germany’s Kristof Hopp-Birgit Overzier 21-18, 21-9. Chinese Taipei’s Chien Yu Chin-Cheng Wen Hsing grabbed the women’s doubles crown after defeating Japan’s Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna 21-17, 21-16.
